How to Embellish an Upper Case V and Not Ruin It
by Victoria Melekian
March 2024
Just draw an angled line down to the cradled
dot of the V, a quick leap back up to the roof,
one controlled motion. Repeat till you’ve got it,
just like cutting paper dolls. Some basics: V is violet,
never purple. Add green leaves (a few, not a fairy tale
ivy-covered cottage) and maybe the hint of a red
and yellow speckled tree frog climbing the stem.
Dangle wisteria blooms or fuchsia ballerinas
from the tip (either or, both will cause the V to sag).
Avoid glitter, sprinkles, sequins. Do not bedazzle.
Moderation is key. V’s are lovely: vermillion, a vase
of lilies, a lazy V of pelicans gliding through ocean mist.
