Take Me Back

by Ayelet Amittay

February 2022

Take me back the way
weather claims the barn
on highway ninety-nine.
Wood worn to
grooves. Bald shingles,
plumb doorjamb gutted.
Wind raised the roof,
hollow as an open
mouth. Take me
back a little at a time,
let light filter room
by room, until timbers
turn back to trees.

Ayelet Amittay is a psychiatric nurse practitioner living in Eugene, Oregon. Her work is forthcoming or appears in Michigan Quarterly Review, Pendemics, Cream City Review, and elsewhere.
